Centering might sound a little bit "woo woo" for some of you. But don't worry you don't need to be a yogi or a meditation master to do some centering and get immediate benefits. It just takes a few moments and might just help your health, your relationships, your productivity, and your sense of well being.
Take a couple of deep breaths and close your eyes (you can even do it with your eyes open if that's more comfortable). Feel your weight pushing down - whether it be through your feet if you're standing or through your butt on a chair if you're sitting. Feel that point of contact and the pressure there. Now notice how your body feels. Is your heart beating fast or slow? is your stomach clenched or relaxed? Where is there tension? Where does it feel hot or cold? No need to change anything about it, just notice it.
This process of turning your attention into your body, moves your thoughts out of your head where they can race down rabbit holes that bring on unwelcome stresses and distractions, and into your body which has an automatic calming and clarifying effect. Try doing this a couple of times a day, just for a minute or two and see what happens.
