Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful.
In fact, a well-lived life rarely takes a path void of turns, potholes, construction and new territory. But, if we want to go from where we are to where we want to be, we need to embrace all the journey has to offer, not just certain parts of it.
We are all created to be perfectly imperfect, yet many of us strive for perfection to avoid judgment from family, friends and even strangers. The desire for perfection can become our enemy of our progress. And when we focus on perfection, self-doubt creeps in to distract us from our goals and deplete our overall happiness.
My belief is that our mistakes, our messes and our complications don’t define us, rather it’s our reaction to them that does. Mistakes are meant for learning, not repeating. So, choose to embrace the mess and intentionally seek out the lessons within. Progress is progress, better is better.
It can be scary to show up in life as our true self – mess and all - but when we do, the feelings of confidence, empowerment and self-acceptance are so powerful that our potential becomes unlocked and we are able to live in our truth.
In all candor, I was hesitant to write this post for Bella Virtu. Why? Because I’m not a perfect writer. But, instead of self-doubt taking over, I embraced the opportunity to try something new that allowed me to share my truth with confidence all the while knowing the worst that could happen is that this post could be both my first and last. And when I thought about it that way, I settled in and wrote with ease.
In the end, it’s not about perfection. It’s about putting our best face forward every day. Because when we do that, we transform ourselves and those around us.
Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful.
