Stop Shoulding

Look out for when you're "shoulding" on yourself, or on those around you, or letting others "should" on you! The word "should" is an alarm bell that alerts us to unnecessary comparing, negative self-talk, and taking on other people's expectations.

"I should be spending more time doing ..."

"I should be stronger/kinder/more productive/more relaxed..."

"You should try what I did/he did/she did..."

Close cousins to "should" are "have to"; "must", and "mustn't".

Listen out for these phrases in your thoughts and speech. Try replacing them with "I choose to ..." or "I am ..." or "I am in the right place for me in my journey".
